I have always been brought up to use windows and I got a Mac last christmas and feel like I've missed out on so much.
The Mac's os is so much simpler and easier to use and the Laptops themselves are stunning.I hope to be getting myself one of the new Macbook pro Models soon.:)

Excellent choice there.<br

I may write up a post comparing all three and what I learned by using all three...although it has been done a lot already...Solveig, see I grew up using Windows and even in high school was opposed to Macs just because they seemed slower, now I know they just run differently and the Macbook Pro is by no means slow! I've not quite the typical Mac user they target but I do enjoy how easy it is to do things like make a movie for the few times I do such things...I'm also wicked impressed with the stability, I've had a few freeze ups/crashes but only a very slight few and less and less as time goes on...

Thanks for the info Devin…I’ll have to look into Gentoo, I’ve heard of it before but didn’t quite know the difference between that and Ubunutu and all the other Linux distributions (there are a ton). I myself now use the MacBook, it is great for what I am doing with it. If I had the choice I would always go for apple products, I am a true apple fan, and on top of that a happy one. :)

You did make the right choice, I grew up always using Macintosh computers. Basically you build the OS from the basic components, and learn a LOT about Linux/Unix this way. There are guides to installing it on a MBP without trashing OS X, like here:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Apple_MacBook
Gentoo has some of the best documentation and forums in the Linux world, so if you experience trouble there'll be someone to help :)Backing up is definitely a good idea, btw, especially with Gentoo... don't be surprised if your first few revisions of your kernel panic upon startup ;)And if you don't want to deal with the whole build-it-yourself thing, I would 2nd (3rd?) Ubuntu as a good option. I also hear good things about Fedora.

I would suggest you try out Gentoo on your MBP as well. Before I install Ubuntu I'd want to back up everything on my hard drive (just in case) and that would take a considerable amount of time at this point. I suppose once I pick up another external hard drive I'll be installing Ubuntu.

Thanks for the link Alex, I was aware I could get Ubuntu on the Macbook and have been meaning to install it but just can’t find the time to dedicate to it.
